Houston Website Design FAQs
How much does a website cost? I hate to say this, but it really depends on your needs. The number of pages, photography requirements, special requests all factor in to the final price. I will can say this, generally, my clients pay less for their websites than a daily morning coffee from Starbucks.
Do I use templates to build my websites? Yes... and NO! When I refer to templates, what I mean is that I build the graphic set, then use it to build each page. The master page (original) is the template. Many web designers use one of many website template companies that are online, or worse, will use one of the many templates that come with their preferred web design package. Although I look at some of the better templates for inspiration, all of my work is original.
Who do I prefer for Domain Name and hosting? Short answer... I prefer me... BUT I always recommend that people use GoDaddy.com to get their domain name BUT NOT THE HOSTING. Although I think Godaddy is by far one of the better internet companies around, their hosting is very limited.
Can you really have my website online in 10 days or less? Yes, generally speaking, I can have your template designed, changed, uploaded and live within a couple of days. The largest delay is generally waiting for my clients to have time to supply the text, or proof the website.
Do I have to do the website updates or can I contact you to do it? Either. If you have someone who can do the work without making a mess of your website, by all means, it belongs to you. The vast majority of my clients send me the changes they want, but it is up to you.
Can I add or subtract pages on my site? Indeed! Business changes, and your website should keep up. Do it yourself, or contact me.
How many pages do I need? This is a very broad question. It really depends on what you want to say. Surfers have a very short attention span, so you really want to say things that reach your point quickly, but are verbose enough to assist with search engine placement. I find that most of the websites I do are from 5 to 8 pages, which does include one or two pages that are only occasionally seen. Pages like this are generally "thank you for contacting us" pages that you see when a form is complete. There are also a couple of pages that are never seen, such as a template page and site map page which are used for design and search engine purposes.
A good website does not have to be difficult to put together, it does not have to be expensive, and it does not have to be distracting. A good website designer will create what you need to do the job you want done, and will get out of the way once the work is complete.
